Quick Cinnamon Rolls

Quick Cinnamon Rolls

These Quick Cinnamon Rolls are so yummy.

This Quick Cinnamon Roll recipe is quick, hence the name…I’m pretty sure what makes them quick is the fast acting yeast that this recipe calls for. This is a great cinnamon roll recipe for those mornings you wake up and crave something sweet. I have to admit, I’ve been a little intimidated at the thought of making Cinnamon rolls for years. Sometimes you just need to go for it, and you might just surprise yourself!!

We normally like to buy the frozen ones. The brand from Door county, but lately we can’t find them anywhere. It was our go to brand to complete our Christmas tradition. Every Christmas we would have them for breakfast. Honestly we’ve tried other brands and they are just not the same.

A couple years ago we discover a cute little restaurant near us that makes some of the best cinnamon rolls. They are huge. One cinnamon roll feeds all of us. But you know how it is, over time you’ll eventually get sick of stuff.

I recently thought with all this extra time I should really try making some. I didn’t plan ahead so I decided to try a 1 hour Cinnamon Roll recipe. At first I was a little overwhelmed. Sometimes it’s hard for me to follow recipes. These days I love cooking without a recipe but I can finally say I understand how these yummy things are made.

Guys, this recipe is a good one…

To be able to wake up and cook some cinnamon rolls in an hour is kinda special. Usually you have to get them ready before bed. That is not my style, I’m not a planner at all so this recipe works! And I have to say this was the first time my children wanted more than one. They didn’t last long in our house. Let me just say, breakfast also turned into dessert after dinner. And everyone has been asking for me to make them again!!

So if you’ve always wanted to make Cinnamon Rolls just do it! Allow yourself the time to learn. With this recipe it’s quick. The first time I made this recipe it took longer than an hour, maybe closer to 2 but it was quick enough for some delicious homemade cinnamon rolls. You won’t be disappointed!! I promise!!

Here is the link to the original recipe I found on Pinterest. Check it out!! https://lifemadesimplebakes.com/1-hour-cinnamon-rolls/

I did make a couple changes while making it so I’ll teach you step by step instructions how I made mine. For the original see the link above.

Quick Cinnamon Rolls

Makes 12 cinnamon rolls

Total time to make: Approx 1 1/2 hrs

Recipe source: Adapted from Life made simple bakes, 1 hour cinnamon rolls

First you’ll want to gather your ingredients:

Ingredients for the dough

  • 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour + 2 tablespoons added while kneading
  • 1 pack of Fleischmann’s Rapid Rise Instant yeast (fast acting) = 2 1/4 teaspoons
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter -softened unsalted
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup milk (I used 1%)
  • 1 egg

Ingredients for the filling

  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 stick of softened unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

Ingredients for the frosting

  • 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons of milk (I used 1%)
  • 1/2 stick of melted unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon (optional)

In a bowl (I used my stand mixer) you’ll want to combine the following…

2 3/4 cups all purpose flour, and 1 pack of Fleischmann’s Rapid Rise Instant yeast (fast acting) = 2 1/4 teaspoons. Lastly 1 teaspoon of salt.

Next in a glass measuring cup add the following….

1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 stick of unsalted butter, 1/2 cup water and 1/4 cup milk. You’ll want to microwave it for approx 1-2 mins and stir.

Now it’s time to pour the melted mixture into your mixing bowl.

And add 1 egg. Now turn your mixer on low and combine everything. Your dough will seem really sticky. I added 2 more tablespoons of flour. That seemed to help. You’ll want to continue to knead the dough on medium speed for about 5-7 mins or until it isn’t sticky anymore. If your not using a stand mixer you’ll have to knead it by hand. Let your dough rest for 5 mins before rolling it out. While your waiting combine your filling ingredients.

While your waiting combine your filling ingredients and preheat your oven to 200 degrees.

Grab a bowl and add 2/3 cup packed brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon and 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla and mix everything together and set aside.

Next you’ll want to clean and dry a flat surface you can use to roll out your dough. First sprinkle on some flour and roll it out to a 16×9 rectangle.

Don’t let this scare you. You don’t have to pull out a measuring tape. I did question the size of mine but make sure it’s larger than a pizza crust. My first one wasn’t perfect by any means.

Once you roll it out, you’ll want to spread on that 1/2 stick of softened unsalted butter.

Next sprinkle and spread on your filling mixture.

Now tightly roll your dough and cut it into 12 equal parts.

As you can see I only have 11. Don’t worry they still turned out ok!!

Next you’ll want to grease your baking dish. I used a 8×13 pan.

I’ll be honest, I was a little nervous that the pan was too small because the original recipe called for a 9×13 pan which I didn’t have. But this one worked out just fine. I would use something close to this size.

Now turn off your oven (should be at 200 degrees) and place them in your oven.

I covered the top with a sheet of parchment paper or you could use some tin foil. Set your timer for 25 mins and allow them to sit in there to rise.

Once you take them out of the oven you’ll want to turn your oven back on and set to 375 degrees.

When your oven gets back up to temperature slide your cinnamon rolls back in uncovered. Let them cook for another 15-18 mins. Beware the tops get hard so make sure to check them at 15 mins.

While your waiting you’ll want to make your frosting. Grab a mixing bowl and a hand mixer.

Add 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar, 1/2 stick of melted butter, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 3 tablespoons of milk (I used 1%) and lastly 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Using your hand mixer combine everything and set aside.

Let them cool before adding the frosting.

The frosting will help soften the tops. If you get some cinnamon rolls that grow in height then use a knife to push them down before icing. Now gently spread on the icing evenly over your cooled cinnamon rolls. And now your ready to eat!
