My kiddos absolutely loved these Cherry Love Pies. I think it was the red sugar sprinkles I used. They are so fun to make for Valentine’s Day. I think kids would have an absolute blast making these! They are fairly easy to make because of the premade pie crusts. Whoever you decide to make them for will know that they are loved.

A couple of weeks ago, I shared another Valentine’s recipe, my Strawberry Nutella Galette. I also posted the “How to Video” on my youtube channel. Valentine’s day is so special to me. It’s not only the day of love but It’s also the day my first baby was born. A memorable day indeed. Come cook these with me. Video below.

If you can’t tell I love food and being inspired by it. My husband and I really enjoy going out to restaurants and trying to figure out how something is made and then replicating it at home. Getting away by ourselves doesn’t happen too often these days but we do try.

Most of the time we settle for takeout when we want to try something new. But when we do have a sitter (thank you mom!!) we celebrate! The other weekend we celebrated and grabbed lunch at a restaurant we’ve been wanting to try for a while. I guess you could say it was our early Valentine’s date.

We went to lunch and did a little shopping for some new dishes. The chipped ones had to go, even though we did save some to use with the kids. Plus my food pics could use a little upgrade haha. The dishes we got reminded me of some hand-thrown pottery.

We went to Pajarito in St Paul and it was amazing! It was located in a really cool building with vivid artwork and brick walls. I should have taken more pictures. It wasn’t overly crowded with people, which was nice. The food was amazing. We started with the salsa flight. We got to pick 3 different salsas. The waiter recommended some pretty good ones, and their chips were so delicious.

We also got some yucas. I’ve never had yucas like this before. They were covered in a chimichurri sauce and topped with manchego cheese and lime aioli. Right away I was wondering where I could get my hands on some Yucas to replicate this at home. My husband got the Birria tacos and I got the Chicken Tinga tacos. Both really good! The presentation of all the dishes was amazing. I’ll post the pics below…

I also have to tell you about the delicious dessert we got. It was a coconut cake drizzled with a reduced cherry sauce. Of course, I was drooling. Coconut and cherries, oh my! My two favorite things. This wasn’t just a slice of cake, it was a monster slice. It reminded me of the time we were eating at the bubble room on Captiva island in Florida. The slice of cake was bigger than my head. Very memorable indeed!

So that was our Valentine’s fun. I hope you guys have a special Valentine’s day as well. These Cherry love pies will help make it a little sweeter. Let’s go over what you’ll need to make these at home.

Ingredients:

-2 Premade pie crusts

-1 Can of cherry pie filling- You’ll use about half

Directions:

-First prep your workstation. Preheat your oven to 425 and gather all your ingredients. Lay down some parchment paper and roll out your premade crust.

-Start at the edge of the pie crust and use the heart cookie cutter to cut out all your hearts. 1 pie crust should give you 6 hearts. Keep in mind, you’ll need 2 cutouts to make 1 cherry love pie. If you want to make a total of 6 love pies you’ll need to use 2 premade pie crusts.

-Now that your hearts are cut out lay 6 hearts on a sheet pan that’s been lined with either parchment paper or a silicon mat.

-Open your cherry pie filling and put a little dollop in the center of the hearts.

-Add a dollop of cherries on top of the hearts and lay a heart cutout on top and seal the edges by pressing down using the fork along the edges of the heart. You might see some of the filling spill out but that’s ok. The red sugar will hide that.

-Lastly, use a knife to put some slits in the middle of the hearts, brush the top with butter and sprinkle the heart with red sugar sprinkles. Bake in the oven at 425 for 20 mins. Let them cool before serving. Enjoy!!
