Holiday Cheese Ball

Holiday Cheese Ball

The holidays are just not the same without this cheese ball. I am so excited to share this Holiday Cheese Ball recipe with all of you! It’s something I’ve been enjoying since my childhood. It’s easy to make and your family will be so thankful if you bring it to your next holiday gathering!

Growing up I remember celebrating the holidays with my dad’s side of the family and having my first taste of this famous cheese ball. My sisters and I loved it! Since then, we have continued the tradition of making this Holiday Cheese Ball.

For years, we always guessed at the measurements when making it. As long as it had green olives and onions it seemed to always taste the same no matter who made it. But I have to say It’s nice to actually have a recipe figured out now.

I’ve never made any other types of cheese balls for the holidays. But this year I did think of it. After making this Holiday Cheese Ball for thanksgiving my husband and I were dreaming up other fun combinations.

I would love to create a new version of a cheese ball that involves goat cheese…Mmm. Not that I’m trying to replace this one. We all know the holidays wouldn’t be the same without it!!

This Holiday Cheese Ball is so simple to make, and you’ll just need a handful of ingredients to make it. This year I tried something different and blended each ingredient in my kitchen aid mixer.

I have to say I like how it tasted being mixed that way. If you have a kitchen aid mixer I would highly recommend making it that way. If not, you can always just mix everything together in a bowl. I’ve done it that way for years.

Ingredients for this Holiday Cheese Ball:

Cheese ball ingredients

-2 packs of cream cheese

-1/4 cup of diced yellow onion

-1/2 cup of diced green olives

-1 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese- more to roll the cheese ball in after it’s formed

-Pack of Walnuts- You’ll be rolling the cheese ball in crushed-up walnuts as the last step of this recipe…after the cheese ball is formed and after it’s rolled in cheese.

-Ritz crackers

Prepping your ingredients:

First things first…gather all your ingredients. Keep in mind, cream cheese is hard to mix when it’s cold so let it sit on the counter for a couple of mins before starting.

You’ll also need to dice 1/2 cup of green olives, and 1/4 cup of yellow onion, and measure 1 cup of sharp cheddar cheese. You’ll also need to crush up walnuts. You can easily do this by adding walnuts to a plate and crushing them with a coffee cup.

Making your Holiday Cheese Ball

-In a kitchen aid mixer or a bowl add 2 packs of cream cheese.

-Next, add 1 cup of shredded sharp cheese. Mix on medium speed to really mix the two together.

-Now add in your diced onions & your diced green olives and mix thoroughly. Whip everything together at medium speed.

-Now that everything is mixed together you’ll need to form your cheese ball. I find it handy to put on zip-lock baggies on your hands to form it into a large ball.

-You’ll need 2 plates. One with a layer of shredded sharp cheddar cheese and another plate with a layer of crushed-up walnuts. You’ll need to roll your cheese ball in the cheese first and then the walnuts.

Your Holiday Cheese Ball should look like this…
